Honda Africa Twin 750

1998 Honda Africa Twin XRV750 RD07

As this is my most recent bike (And I still own it!) I will be able to write a bit more about it!

I bought this bike at the beginning of March 2006, and since then I have put over 10,000 miles onto it.

I’m sure there are not many bikes that would do all I have asked as well as this bike has; so far I have ridden round the country, been trail riding, done countless motorway cruising trips (Single and two up), town work, even taken it ‘scratching’! It is not the best at any of them, but there are lot of bikes it beats easily!

It has never once failed to get me to my destination and then home again, and has not needed any parts beyond the normal service items you would expect – oil and filter changes, brake fluid change, coolant change, and a chain and sprocket set.

The noise from the tank-mounted airbox is also utterly addictive, and one of the reasons I spend a lot of time either accelerating or on the over-run!

  • Reliable
  • No major ‘well known faults’
  • Economical
  • Easy to service
  • Quite quick for what it is (0-60 in about 5 seconds)
  • A surprisingly competent ‘Jack of all trades’…

  • …but master of none!
  • Choke mechanism can stick
  • Fuel pump prone to failure
  • Heavy for off-road riding
  • Regulator/rectifier prone to failure
  • Slightly soft front suspension

So, quite simply, it has been, and continues to be, an absolute joy to own!
